BLOOD TESTS

Blood (Phlebotomy) including warfarin blood testing clinics are run daily except on a Tuesday.  Patients who have been advised by their doctor to have their blood tested or have  a medical condition which requires their blood to be tested periodically should whenever possible  book an appointment at one of these clinics. Patients requiring their blood pressure to be taken can also use these appointments

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ABOVE CLINICS ALLOW ONLY SUFFICIENT TIME FOR BLOODS TESTING OR BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING. IF YOU REQUIRE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A DIFFERENT PROCEDURE THIS SHOULD BE MADE FOR ONE OF THE NORMAL PRACTICE NURSE CLINICS

SPECIMENS

Specimens are taken to the Hospital Laboratories by van twice daily . Please have all specimens into us by 3pm

HOW DO I GET TEST RESULTS?

Generally if the result of any test is abnormal and action is needed you will be contacted by the surgery. If you are not contacted this means either the test result was normal or the doctor will discuss at the next routine appointment. However if you do not hear from us but would like to know your result then you can obtain your result  by contacting the surgery between 1pm -3pm ( Mon - Fri) . on 0844 477 8712 and  take option 6. We ask you to phone during these hours as the lines are generally busy at other times of the day.  

The following is a list of how long it typically takes for us to receive and process the results of some tests

• Simple blood tests
  (Liver/Kidney , diabetes, cholesterol etc )     -    2 days
• Specialised blood tests  - 3-5 days
• Pregnancy test - 2 days
• Urine test for infection -  2 days
• Stool samples - 5days
• Swab Results   - 1 week
• Nail clipping for fungus    - 2 weeks
• Biopsy results (Minor surgery)    -    1-2 weeks
• Letters from hospitals following outpatient    - 4 weeks
