The Local CTAC (Community Treatment And Care) service situated at both Sighthill and Allermuir Health Centres can be contacted by phone on 0131 537 7205. This is an automated service where you will be asked to leave your details and a letter with an appointment will be sent out in the post. Treatment with oil for 2 weeks is still recommended as the initial non intervention treatment. This can be purchased over the counter from any pharmacy.
All Services
Contraception
We provide a full range of contraceptive services. Most are provided at normal GP surgery appointments. You will be asked to make a special appointment if you wish to have an Implant or an IUCD (coil) fitted. Please note, for the contraceptive pill you must make an appointment to see the GP as checks must be undertaken to ensure the safety of it.
Post coital contraception (the morning after pill) is also available. It is important that you take this as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse, but it can be taken up to 72 hours after. It is more effective the sooner it is taken. If you need this, please go to any pharmacy and request to speak to the pharmacist who can supply you with this free of charge providing you are over the age of 13 and are registered with a GP in Scotland.
Cervical Screening
The cervical screening programme advises that anyone with a cervix aged 25-64 have a cervical smear every 5 years. You may be called more often depending on your test results. You will be notified by letter directly from the Cervical Screening Department when your smear is due. Please ensure you arrange an appointment with a practice nurse for when you are mid cycle as this provides a more accurate result. For more information on Cervical Smears please click here.
Blood/BP
Our Health Care Assistant offers appointments on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (08:00-15:00) for basic blood and blood pressures. These appointments are 10 minutes long. Please do not ask for an appointment with the Practice Nurse as the nurses specialise in other fields.
Baby Clinic
The Health Visiting Team will see all babies in the home between 6-8 weeks of age to conduct a development assessment. Aged 8 weeks the GP will conduct a medical exam within Springwell Medical Centre. The HV Team provides an appointment for all babies to have their GP medical. All routine immunisations are administered by the Edinburgh Vaccination Team.
The HV office is open for phone calls between 08:30 and 16:30.
Antenatal
Our antenatal clinic is based at Slateford Medical Centre. Please note this appointment is made by the midwives directly.
